You deleted social media, but you still want the good part: prompts, structure, momentum, and a reason to make art when your brain feels like the blank page. Same.
Here's a short list (which may one day, eventually, possibly turn into a more comprehensive list) of some art challenges those of us who are stepping away for a bit (or forever!) can participate in. Hey, maybe it will even evolve into an outside art challenge itself! :P
🎨 The 100 Day Project
A flexible creative challenge where you choose one thing to make or practice for 100 days. It can be drawing, painting, collage, lettering, tiny studies, or any other creative habit.
🎨 Doodlewash Monthly Art Challenges
A monthly watercolor and drawing challenge with daily prompts. You can follow the theme, use the prompts loosely, or jump in whenever you want.
🎨 Making Art Everyday
A daily drawing prompt challenge from Bardot Brush with monthly themes, tutorials, and archives. It is especially useful for digital artists and Procreate users.
🎨 TinkerLab 12 Months of Art Challenges
A year-round art challenge with 365 word prompts, one for each day of the year. It works with any medium and is easy to use without social media.
🎨 One Week 100 People
A fast figure-drawing challenge where the goal is to draw 100 people in one week. It is good for gesture drawing, urban sketching, and getting less precious about imperfect sketches.
🎨 30-Day Sketchbook Challenge
A January sketchbook challenge from Susan Yeates with one drawing prompt per day for 30 days. It is meant to help artists build a regular sketchbook habit.
📝 I listed these last because they're time-specific, usually October because of Inktober, but you can also do the previous year's prompts any time. They're not the boss of you. ;)
🍉 Index-Card-a-Day
A 61-day art challenge from Daisy Yellow where you make something on an index card every day from June 1 through July 31. It is low-pressure, cheap, and great for small daily experiments.
🎃 Drawtober
An October art challenge with a spooky, fantasy, dark fairytale feel. It is similar to Inktober, but leans more into storytelling, creatures, folklore, and Halloween-adjacent themes.
🎃 Peachtober
An annual October drawing challenge created by Sha’an d’Anthes, also known as Furry Little Peach. It offers daily prompts with a softer, colorful, illustration-friendly vibe.
⛄️ The January Challenge
A 31-day creativity challenge from 64 Million Artists with one creative prompt per day in January. It is not drawing-only, but every prompt can easily be turned into a sketch, collage, art journal page, or illustration.
This list is ongoing. Do you host or know of an art challenge to add to this list? Leave a comment and I'll add it!
Here's a cool pin :)
